Paris Porto Retour Au Portugal

Retour au Portugal, hommage à tous les tos qui rentrent au bercail chaque été, aux marocains qui partagent ce voyage avec nous jusqu'à Burgos, aux frères espagnols et à tous ceux qui prennent la route pour rentrer dans leur bled. Pour la musique, encore une fois merci à La Harissa, c'est du rap puissant, ça bouge et en même temps on ressent l'émotion de la musique traditionnelle portugaise. Retour au Portugal, voyage magnifique, quand on était gosse ça pouvait durer 2 jours, forcément ça marque, ça commence à Paris, son périf, sa pollution, son trafic, puis c'est la plaine française, Orléans, Tours, Poitiers, déjà 450km, puis Bordeaux et son Pont, ça sent le sud, après on traverse les Landes, des pins géants pendant 150km, puis c'est la montagne, le Pays Basque, Bayonne, Biarritz, Saint-Jean de Luz, et enfin la frontière, l'ambiance change, les camions espagnols, les cafeterias perdues au milieu de nulle part, les usines polluantes et les barres d'HLM entourées de terrains de pelote basque, puis vient Burgos, début du désert espagnol, si chaud le jour et si froid la nuit, surtout quand on dort dans la caisse sur une aire de repos, des champs de blé brûlés par le soleil nous entourent, les villes surgissent de nulle part, Palencia et son Christ perché sur la colline veillent sur la Castilla et las tierras de los campos et ses villages en terre, Valladolid, Salamanca, Benavente, Zamora, les villes Oasis vous accueillent avant l'arrivée au pays, cette fois la frontière est plus sommaire, une simple rivière à Quintanilha, le fleuve Minho à Valença, une petite chaîne de montagnes arides à Puebla de Sanabria, ou encore Vilar Formoso dans la Serra das Estrellas, enfin le Portugal et ses odeurs de bacalhau, de churrasco et de farturas, pour ceux qui rejoignent les côtes, la route continue, champs d'Oliviers au Tras Os Montes ou en Alentejo, montagnes de forêts sèches dans le Minho, forêts d'eucalyptus au Douro littoral, avant d'arriver à destination, pour ma part Porto, ses plages, ses fêtes, ses ponts, ses stades...et surtout la famille.

Condado La Pernia, the Cooper Cave, La Pernia, Montaña Palentina

The unknown cave. I had climbed many times to see the cave of Cobre (Coble) in the summer. But that one day was special. It was not summer. Without skis, crampons, piolets or rackets, I went towards the cave. I had already planned out every detail. I had left myself many hours to climb and to return before it grew dark. I travelled along the same, familiar route until I arrived at the first bifurcation. Here I chose the left trail, which travelled through a forest of oaks that I knew very well. But now I felt as if I was discovering it for the first time because covered everything. Something peculiar, incomprehensible initially, made me stop. Enormous branches were lying on the snow, at times decorating and at other times blocking the trail. The branches still had thick layers of brightly colored, autumnal leaves. There were many; it seemed as if there had been a pitched battle. I had never seen anything like this scene. Because I thought I had plenty of time, I advanced slowly. While I walked, I realized that the branches had fallen because they could not support the weight of the snow nor the strength of the howling wind. I finally arrived at the end of the forest. A group of mares had, with their collective body heat, managed to melt a patch of snow on the ground on which they had slept the night before. But now they were trapped and could not move because they were surrounded by snow. The only place without snow was the tiny island on which they were standing, upright and unmoving. From this point I had only about 500 meters left until the entrance to the cave. I knew it was a zone of escobas (a tree native to Spain), some more than three meters high. But now I could not see any, because all of them were hidden under the snow. It is true that I knew the footpath perfectly well in the summer, but now I could see no sign or familiar trace of the route. I was walking when suddenly I sank to my waist. Beneath some of the escobas were hollow packets of air. These holes acted as traps for people such as myself who were travelling across the snow. I used my hands and struggled to lift the sunken leg. But as I was raising the sunken leg, the snow beneath my other, supporting leg gave way as well. I sank even further. However, I refused to let this accident deter my intention and I did not turn back. My progress was slow but continuous. Even though it was a cloudy day and I was almost completely buried by the snow, I was drenched in sweat. I raised my head and saw a flock of deer. I tried to film them, but the sunlight shone so brightly off the snow, that when I looked through the viewfinder, I could not see anything. I calculated the approximate place where they were, and I filmed to tuntún. Later, back at my house, I viewed the photos and was delighted to see how beautiful the deer looked. After two hours of hiking, I had only advanced 300 meters. I could sense that I was close to the entrance of the cave. I was on the verge of surpassing the zone of escobas and was about to enter the last wooded section. As soon as I reached the pine trees, I realized that I sank less but that I slipped more. Nearby, I saw a completely white cow taking its final breaths. The poor creature had almost no strength and could barely open its eyes. I felt as if it was begging me for help, but I could nothing to help by that point. I knew that it would die in the course of the night because it would not be able to survive the hardships of two consecutive nights outside in the snow. I continued walking and I soon arrived at the final zone of escobas. The tragedy began once again: I would sink down, raise a leg to try to climb out, only to sink even further as the snow beneath that leg gave way as well. It had taken me three hours to cross a distance that I usually could travel in only fifteen minutes. The sun began to set, filling the sky with light and color. Finally, I saw the entrance of the cave that was covered with snow. I knew that nobody had approached the place because there was not a single track or footprint. I could not even imagine the first incipient river crossing. Everything was covered with snow. Slowly, I crested the last hill and was able to see towards the interior of the cave. What appeared before me immediately made me forget my exhaustion and all the turmoil that I had endured. All. This was not the cave that I knew; instead, it was an ice cathedral. I entered, awestruck. Immense icicles hung from the ceiling and I tried to walk without losing sight of them. I knew that if one were to fall on me from above, I would never leave this cave. But I also needed to watch the ground as I walked. It was an ice layer adorned with innumerable ice crystals, capricious and diverse in their texture, transparency, color and size. I enjoyed every millimeter of the place. I could never have imagined such a place. It was impossible for me to absorb so much beauty in such a short time. Everything was covered in ice, except for the place where the waters of the rising Pisuerga River flowed. The snow had managed to penetrate rather far into the cave, and I could see the track of some small animal. I struggled to move around the cave. The whole cave was illuminated by the sun and with each step I saw different colors and hues reflected off the ice forms. I crossed the illuminated part, in all directions. Solitude inside and solitude outside; rumor of water in the interior and total silence outside. I was rejuvenated and filled with strength by this place of such beauty and wonder. “Este año se celebra el 600 aniversario de la creación del condado de Pernía; puesto que en el año 1410 el rey Alfonso II de Castilla confirió ese título nobiliario al obispo de Palencia Sancho de Rojas, como agradecimiento por los favores realizados a la corona y por su participación en la conquista de Antequera”. Miguel Ahora que estamos celebrando los 700 años de la creación del Condado de La Pernía, quisiera hacerle un pequeño homenaje recreando algo que considero tan connatural a esta zona como su mismo nombre: los ajuérjanos. Mi contacto con este fruto tuvo lugar en la infancia, desde entonces se me quedó grabado el olor, la forma y el sabor tan característico. Nos lo comíamos con tanto gusto que era un motivo de alegría la llegada de su maduración. Pasaron muchos años y perdí la noción de todo menos del nombre. Un día estaba con mi hermano a la altura de la fuente de Los Casares y me preguntó señalándome una flor: “Sabes que es esto?”. Al no recibir respuesta contestó: “son los ajuérjanos”. Comenzó a cavar con una navaja y efectivamente, salió un ajuérjano. No pudimos encontrar mas ni ese día ni los días subsecuentes. Al cabo de dos años, de nuevo nos encontramos a la altura de “Los Ponzos”, y de nuevo me señaló otra planta que, para él era, con toda seguridad, un ajuérjano. Pero, oh sorpresa, luego de rodearla cuidadosamente con la navaja, no apareció por ninguna parte. Todavía excavó dos plantas más que tampoco tenían fruto. Parecía inexplicable. A raíz de esto me quedó la idea de que dicha maravilla podría estar en vías de extinción, mas, para mi fortuna, cuán equivocado estaba. En la primera parte del año 2009, y con las características del color y la forma bien definidas y memorizadas, encuentro junto al río Pisuerga un campo lleno de flores blancas al final de un tallo largo y delgado y asombrado delibero: “no serán ajuérjanos”. Comienzo la averiguación y efectivamente me encuentro con que el prado tenía un 80% de este maravilloso tubérculo. Luego voy constatando que casi toda la Pernía estaba igual. Nuestro encantador ajuérjanos había vuelto a poblar nuestras tierras para quedarse. Proclamo al ajuérjano como el fruto escondido, emblemático y representativo del “Condado de La Pernía”. La veta artística de Luis Guzmán la hereda de su padre, importante folklorista. Y como él tuvo la atinada revelación de recopilar canciones pernianas que de otra forma se hubieran perdido para siempre. Al conmemorarse los 700 años del Condado de la Pernia, debería hacerse un monumento al hombre que tuvo la visión de rescatar y preservar la cultura musical de nuestros pueblos. Con su cuaderno de música fue escribiendo en el pentagrama la inmensa riqueza de ritmos y tonalidades, de sentimientos e interpretaciones del mundo rural de la montaña palentina. Qué no daríamos nosotros por contar con lo que la gente perniana de hace 700 años comían, cantaban, cómo celebraban sus fiestas, cómo era un día para ellos, cuáles eran sus faenas, qué utensilios usaban, qué hacían los domingos, sobre qué temas versaban sus conversaciones, cuáles eran sus necesidades y preocupaciones, etc. Quizás nunca lo sabremos pero lo que no desaparecerá será la cultura musical, las tradiciones folklóricas, las canciones y bailes populares, gracias a este hombre prominente, trabajador incansable, sagaz , lúcido y sacrificado observador de las costumbres de su tiempo, habilidoso para transcribir en notas las melodías y ritmos de las canciones, para capturar en su esencia natural las voces privilegiadas y puras de la gente de La Pernía. No quiero aquí mencionar los premios, homenajes y concursos ganados por el que fuera maestro de Tremaya, Luis Guzman. Y lo más maravilloso es que lo tenemos todavía vivo.

La Cellisca En La Pernía, Montaña Palentina

La cellisca es de sobra conocida por los habitantes de La Pernía. De una u otra forma nadie se ha podido escapar de ella. Muchas pernianas, por ejemplo, aunque preferían quedarse en casa, se veian obligadas a salir para ir a atender a los animales que tenían en la tená, en una cuadra o corte cercana, y en ese corto trayecto muchas veces se topaban de frente con la cellisca hasta llegar a no ver el lugar a donde se dirigían.
